Merry Christmas to you!

Time fries like an arrow toward the end of the year.
Harreyさん、I gess you spend an enjoyable Chrismas season with your family and friends.

We are not Christian, but we enjoyed Christmas mood on 13th.
Each of our classmates brought homemade cookies, homemade apple jam, rice crackers in a little bag, and superior coffee, etc.
I was presenteded a lovely cotton pearl necklace with thank you letter.
I was very pleased to accept such a warmhearted present.

"Chasing the Dragon: In Burma, All Conversations Seem to Lead to China"
This is the title we read article this time.

Several years ago, I encountered approximately 30 Burmese protestors near Ikebukuro station.
They made a petition to military junta to release political prisoners and under the house arrested Aung San Suukyi .
They appealed eagerly "we don't have freedom of speech, we don't have democracy."
Of course, I subscribed a petition.
So I was very interested in this article, I got a second lesson until 5 o'clock by Mrs. Sakaguchi
after class. She also prepared related Japanese articles and map at our lesson.

Burma is one of the most isolated nation on earth.
For a long time Burma had been ruled by military junta.
U.S. and European countries gave economic sanctions, so Burma relied on Chinese assistance and
support.
China's economic domonance over Burma's natural resouces stand out.
But in this March, new government which is far from true change was established.
Luckily, Burma's Internet czars relaxed Web censorship.
Foreigners in Burma were checking Facebook and reading news sites blocked in China.
Although it is molasses speed of the Burmese Internet.

Chinese government has unleashed economic reforms that have enriched the lives of people.
But one-third of Burma's 50 milion-plus people subsist in poverty.
The Burmese government's spending on health care and education ranks among the world' lowest.

A charm campain -consisting of market reforms, political prisoner releases and a modicum of political liberalizations that culminated in Clinton's landmark visit, which the Burmese hope will lead to a lifting of western sanctions.

Most intellectual Burmese are committed to the primacy of Western-style democracy.
Burma's regime will have to address the fact that the populace yearns for democratic rule.

Have a happy Chrismas to you and a happy new year !

Splendid accomplishment

We read two article about "Holding On: Papandreou Keeps His Party in power But Will He Still Lead Greece? " and "Cracked Foundation" this time.

Prime Minister George Papandreou is a politician who is called the Greek equivalent of America's Kennedys.
If economical circumstance is good in Greece, he would be reputable premier.
European Union was born 12 years ago in order to bailout developing country.
At that time Eurocurrency market was stable condition, but now become weak.

Eurozone leaders achieved their plan to slash Greece's debt burden and and offer more bailout loans but with the understanding that austerity measures must be implemented.
Papandreou said he would ask Greeks to vote on the latest bailout deal in a referendum.
When I heard this comment, I thought it is strange.
Of course, Sarkozy, Merkel, and other leaders got so angry.
Papandreou rescinded the refrendum but he insists that his intention was to give Greeks a direct
voice in the country's fate. The referendum was an idealistic move by politician. His intention are good , but he doesn't have real political savvy. He disclosed it by his remarks.

He would step down if necessary and work to form a coalition government.
The coalition government would prepare the country for election by February.

But the problem is much bigger than him.
It's a problem with system, which is corrupt , and with a global economy that' run by a bunch of punks at Moody's who decide.

It should not be put off as no concern of ours, Japanese.

We also read through the article "Cracked Foundation" too.
Honestly, Mrs Sakaguchi almost translated into Japanese.

We had a full of the attainment feeling.

It's turned cold in Japan.

Thank you for letting us know how you've been getting along.

"A man's walking is succession of falls."
The course of our life does not continue happiness.
That is life.
Never give up.

We never gave up our lesson which was held on 11th , too.
Although we were giving up and tried to postpone reading rest of the article,
we could read roughly till final paragraph.
Our member brought some information concerning this article from Internet, newspaper, etc.

Why Scientists Are Smarter Than Politicians ?
It is too difficult for me, I can't mention by my own sentence.
I will try to pick up some important sentences .

Randall made a plea for greater deference to reason in 2012 presidential campaign.
She lamented "the fundamental disregard for rational and scientific thinking"in a
political culture.

The cracks and discrepancies that might seem too small or obscure for some.
The scientists can be the portal to new concepts and ideas for those who look at
the problem the right way.

For any highly accomplished person, creativity begins with the least creative
mindset possible - a near-obsessive ability to think endlessly about a problem,
and indeed an inability not to think about it.

The people who seek to lead us - could well learn something from listening to
what they have to say.

We are very happy to know you don't forget us.

Thank you for joining us during our lesson the other day.
I am glad that you don't forget us.

This time, we read the article about Noda cabinet.
In Japan, his cabinet was called "Loach cabinet"
Because he made an address using loach at inauguration ceremony.
His speech was seasoned with wit and humor quoting from Mituo Aida's poem.

DPJ's kingmaker, Ichiro Ozawa who still controls this party supported to another candidate Banri Kieda.
Therefore, many Japanese thought not Noda would win in the prime minister race.

This article said, Noda is another slice of "cold pizza"?
He is similar to former prime minister Keizo obuchi who was called "cold pizza”
After Noda became a prime minister, because of his warm and magnetic personality, he gained
a high approval rate.
Japan has the stagnant economy, rising yen and slow reconstruction in the Tohoku region and
nuclear crisis, etc..
I hope and he need strong leadership and ability to unite and work togather with opposition LDP.

Taking advantage of consecutive holidays, I went to Yamagata, my hometown the other day.
Slowly but surely, Yamagata side revived from the disaster.
But even now Yamagata prefecture have lots of evacuee.
Even six months passed, they can't go back to their hometown.
I saw the slogan " Ganbarou Tohoku!!" here and there.
For supporting devastated area, "The Bentou festival " which was maden in Tohoku, was held at Tokyo station .
I require more funding to speed up recovery efforts.

As soon as Noda foremed a cabinet, trade minister Yoshio Hachiro resigned by slipping of tongue.
Former Chief Cabinet Secretary, Yukio Edano was replaced.
Nevertheless I don't have a great deal of expectation to this cabinet.
Like me, many Japanese don't expect much, so he was called cold pizza, is not so delicious.

Lunching and Chatting........in English: Lunching and Chatting........in English: Hello Hayley, We are fine!

Lunching and Chatting........in English: Lunching and Chatting........in English: Hello Hayley, We are fine!
Hello, Hayley !
I think you are making effort to prepare your presentation , or already finished ?

We held a class on 19th at my house.
Scorching hot days continued for a while, so my brain engine didn't start at the beginning of our lesson.
But we accomplished our assignment.

I think optimism is hardwired for hope. It has clear benefit in the present.
Hope keeps our mind at ease.
The belief that the future will be much better than the past and present is known as the optimism bias.
The big diffrence between my English ability and other lady's ability is quite big.
But the optimism bias made me not to drop out Hayley English class.

This chapter is more difficult for me.
All I could do was to understand sentences .
I can't say my mention about this.
I was assisted with translation by classmates.
Anyway we spent an informative time.

We will not have class in August.
bye until September.
Have an enjoyable time in your country.

Lunching and Chatting........in English: Hello Hayley, We are fine!

Lunching and Chatting........in English: Hello Hayley, We are fine!
I have to apologize to you for sending only title without comment twice because of my poor operating P.C. My sentence has disappeared.
Mrs. Sakaguchi instructed me through E-mail to access into your blog.
Of course, we had a meaningful time with luxurious topics in 90% Japanease , especially about your blog and this article.

Not only Japan but also Germany , Italy and other countries try to change from nuclear power generation to renewable energy
sources, toward solar panels, wind turbines, geothermal, biomass, wave power , etc.
Japan has volcanos and lots of hot springs. so I think geothermal projects is the best way in our country.
But this article informed me they will deplete the hot springs and ruin spa-related tourism.
I also agree that we convert that into solar plants on the irradiated agricultural land near the Fukusima power plant.
But I am concerned about continuing rainy days and the cost.
All renewable energy sources have pros and cons .
After March 11th , Japanese government must compensate life of victims and evacuees.
Now I worry about the cost .
Because it will turn to our burden as a tax.
